Once pronounced as "yee-wu-poui", a light-hearted term created 30 years ago to describe the unlikely joint campus between two Big Ten rivals in the State of Indiana, Indiana University (Bloomington) and Purdue University (West Layfayette), IUPUI has emerged as one of the finest urban research and teaching universities in the nation today. IUPUI is now pronounced as "I-U-P-U-I", referring to Indiana University (IU) - Purdue University (PU) Indianapolis (I). Built around one of the largest IU medical school and hospital systems outside of Longwood area, Boston, MA, IUPUI now has the largest collection of major schools offered from Purdue University (e.g., School of Engineering and Technology, School of Science) and Indiana University (e.g., School of Medicine, School of Business, School of Informatics, School of Liberal Arts, School of Dentistry, School of Nursing, School of Social Work, School of Music). The synergy between IU at the south and Purdue at the north, the interplay between liberal arts, sciences, and engineering, the crosstalks between traditional disciplines to breed new knowledge frontiers (e.g., Bioinformatics), and the convenience of going from research to commercialization in a Metropolitan city--all are making IUPUI an emerging envy for interdisciplinary talents looking for new challenges and opportunities.
